N I C A R A G U A A Journey to Remember
I received my first camera at the age of six and realized the amazing power of images. It was a little black box, a used Brownie which my mother gave me. I loved it immediately and I still have that camera. I constantly worked on ideas, producing essays, and photographing people but my first serious series were taken in Nicaragua in the mid 1980’s. I always have been fascinated with the human condition, movement and change. This also marked my earliest discovery of my desire to express the intricate interplay and mood of individuals at work and in life. Surprisingly today, after more than two decades since the culmination of its popular revolution, in some parts of Nicaragua, the state of human condition has not changed much. With these images I hoped to capture a moment in time which sadly could have been captured today. Ultimately the hope behind this series was to once again ignite a new sense of concerns and the desire to help. This series became the subject of my third book, from which all proceeds are contributed to the improvement of the quality of life of the Nicaraguan children. |
