I observed, that nearly all the American people I met so far were more than convivial. The friendliness I read and heard back in Switzerland about Americans was not exaggerated. I found myself being welcomed everywhere, usually with hospitability that was overwhelming, even though it was obvious that I came from a foreign country, my various host and the people I met treated me with easy familiarity and a keen interest.
It was easy for me to adjust to this casual way of life and I enjoyed the informality. It would be more difficult when I returned to Switzerland, I thought, to accept the stiff conventions observed there. |
